Policies
How We Work:
All appointments are on-site visits at your office or home. We don’t charge for travel time if you live in Manhattan, Brooklyn or Queens within a 45 minute subway ride from Midtown. For clients farther away we offer a remote access service where we can see your screen and control your computer without coming to you.
Rate:
Our rate is $125 per hour, per technician.
- Minimum: We have a 1 hour minimum. This means that we charge $125 for the first hour whether the appointment lasts 1 minute or 60 minutes. After the first hour we bill in 15 minute increments rounding up to the nearest $5 amount. For example, a 1 hour and 45 minute appointment would be $220.
- Price Quotes: Given the complex nature of computer troubleshooting it is impossible to predict how long it will take to resolve any particular issue or how much work that fix will entail. Therefore it is our policy to charge by the hour. We do not give price quotes or estimates for repairs, upgrades, troubleshooting or computer set up. We will always work in a speedy and efficient manner but it remains our policy to charge by the hour.

- Reduced Price for Ongoing Lessons: For $85 per hour you can sign up for 5 or more one-on-one tutoring sessions or lessons. These are one hour lessons where there will be no in-depth troubleshooting, just computer training. We offer this special rate of $85 per hour to customers who pay for all 5 lessons up front with one check for $425.
- Remote Mac Access Subscription: Ever needed tech support for a quick computer question but did’t want to pay for a full 1 hour appointment for an in-home fix? By signing up for our $30 per month Remote Access Tech Support service, we can remotely access your computer (with your permission only, of course) and walk you through many minor issues that would have previously required a house call. By sending us a message using the Remote Access Tech Support service the message will ring our iPhone instantly alerting us that you need tech support. As soon as we can get to a computer we can remotely access your computer and resolve many minor issues you may be having. The service is available during our normal business hours.
- Remote Mac Access Pay-Per Use: We can remotely connect to your computer if you are away and unavailable for an appointment. We can fix many issues and provide remote training for all programs. This service is available anytime you have have an internet connection. We charge our normal hourly rate with a 1 hour minimum charge for this service if you are not already signed up for the monthly subscription.
- Purchases: If you would like us to purchase or pick up equipment for you we charge our normal hourly rate plus the cost of the equipment.
- Research: If you would like us to research a topic or product for you we charge our normal hourly rate.
If We Can’t Solve It You Pay Nothing!:
If for some genuine lack of knowledge on our part we cannot solve your computer issue we will not charge you for the time spent working on that particular issue. There are caveats to this policy that exist not because we decided on those caveats but simply because of the nature of this type of work and the nature of computer problems. Those caveats are:
- We will charge normally for time spent attempting to resolve an issue or researching an issue if it turns out that there is no solution. This because if currently there exists no solution to an issue it is not a lack of knowldege on our part. We knew enough to research and investigate the issue to discover that there was no solution currently available.
- Similarly, we will charge normally for time spent working on an issue if it turns out that some piece of equipment is physically broken, cracked, defective, missing or otherwise unfixable. Again this is because this would not be a lack of knowledge on our part.
- From time to time there will be a solution to an issue that is not the type of solution that you were expecting but still resolves your issue (also called a “work-around”). We charge normally in this case also.
Payment:
We accept cash, checks, PayPal, Bitcoins and direct deposit. Payment is due at the end of the appointment. If you would like to pay by credit card we can assist you in registering for a PayPal account and you can pay with your credit card through PayPal.
- Direct Deposit: If you are a business in an office environment and you have worked with us 3 or more times you may pay by direct deposit permitted the transfer is made within 7 days of the day you receive an invoice from us. We charge a $20 fee for each deposit to cover the direct deposit fee charge by our bank. Non-business clients may not pay by direct deposit. NOTE: Any client who makes a direct deposit payment after the 7 day period more than once may no longer make direct deposit payments and must pay us upon receiving our services at the end of each appointment just as you would pay for purchasing goods at a store.
- Mailing a Check: If you are a business in an office environment and you have worked with us 3 or more times you may also mail us a check permitted it is post marked within 7 days of the day you receive an invoice from us. Non-business clients may not pay by mail. Checks should be made payable to Geeks of Gotham. If your company has a policy of making payments to suppliers, contractors and employees on a two week, 30 day or 60 day basis or you are unable to mail out checks within 7 days of receiving an invoice then you must pay us upon receiving our services at the end of each appointment just as you would pay for purchasing goods at a store. NOTE: Any client who mails a check after the 7 day period more than once may no longer mail payments and must pay us upon receiving our services at the end of each appointment just as you would pay for purchasing goods at a store.
- Returned Checks: In the event of a returned check we charge a $35 fee in addition to the fees charged by our bank, typically $15, for a total of $50. We may also attempt to re-submit the check for payment as often as the bank permits us to do so. For each attempt that goes unpaid we will charge you a $35 fee in addition to the fees charged by our bank. NOTE: Any client whose check is returned by our bank may only pay with cash in the future.
- PayPal: We charge a $10 connivence fee for each PayPal payment to cover the fee charged by PayPal.
- Bitcoins: We accept Bitcoins at the exchange rate at the time the appointment is completed or the exchange rate at the time payment is made, whichever is higher. Payments of Bitcoins will be calculated to the furthest decimal place possible.
